Qantir-Piramesse Temporary Exhibitions

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA), the Roemer- and Pelizaeus Museum, Hildesheim and Humboldt-University, Berlin are organizing a temporary exhibition titled: “QANTIR-PIRAMESSE” which will be inaugurated on the 20^th of April, 2022.

The exhibition will take place in room 44 of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (EMC). It will feature the site of Qantir-Piramesse, its ancient history and the story of its discovery. The exhibition will highlight the Egyptian archaeologists, Mahmoud Hamza and Labib Habachi, who first identified the modern village of Qantir with the Ramesside capital Piramesse. It will also explain the findings of the Qantir-Piramesse documentation and excavation project, which began in 1980. The physical exhibition at EMC will be accompanied by a virtual exhibition. The exhibition will include the finds from the excavations of Mahmoud Hamza and Labib Habachi, which are on display or in the magazines of the Egyptian Museum. Moreover, the exhibition will include some archaeological finds discovered by the Qantir-Piramesse mission during the excavations of the Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum, together with the Supreme Council of Antiquities since 1980; these objects will be moved from the storage at San el-Hagar to the museum in Cairo.
