History and Collection
The Children’s Museum was inaugurated during a special ceremony in 2010 by His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark, the former Head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Zahi Hawass, and the former Director of the Egyptian Museum, Dr. Wafaa Al Saddik.
The Children’s Museum is proud to feature a special display made of LEGO imported specially from Denmark. Along with the exciting LEGO models, we also exhibit replicas and educational models produced by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ Production Unit.
The Children’s Museum occupies part of the basement of the Egyptian Museum, and access is made through the entrance located at the western side of the building We have six halls filled with objects that will attract and entertain children of all ages. Our collection covers many Ancient Egyptian themes, including writing, religion, pyramid building, as well as death and the afterlife. There is a model showing the construction of the pyramids, a sphinx, and replicas related to famous personalities from Ancient Egypt, including the mask of the boy King Tutankhamen, and a statue of Rameses II.
This museum also provides a service for visually impaired children, where children can collect “Lego” pieces to learn about the shape of Egyptian statues, decorations, pyramids, and the Sphinx, and also help them learn about art and history. The visit ends with a workshop in which the children makes their own models of “Lego” cubes.
